Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary/Keoladeo Ghana National Park is situated in Rajasthan state of India. It is one of the premium bird sanctuaries/parks in the world. Besides a number of birds, the Bharatpur bird sanctuary/national park offers fortification to various animal class as well. The bird sanctuary is home to numerous original water birds as well as traveling birds and also inhabited by Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar.

Wildlife of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
The major attractions of tourists visiting the park are the numerous traveling birds, who come from as far away as Siberia and Central Asia and spend their winters in Bharatpur, before returning to their breeding foundation. Migratory birds at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary include several variety of Cranes, Pelicans, Geese, Ducks, Eagles, Hawks, Shanks, Stints, Wagtails, Warblers, Wheatears, Flycatchers, Buntings, Larks and Pipits, etc.

History (Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary)
Prince Bhamji of Morvi state in Gujarat transformed this area into a world famous nature reserve. Duck shoots were organized in the area every year by the rulers of Bharatpur, in honor of Viceroy Lord Curzon and his party on 1st December, 1902. The exploits of all visiting dignitaries since 1902 have been fixed on stone plaques standing near the Keoladeo temple. Largest number of birds (4273) were killed on 12th November, 1938, by Lord Linlithgow, Viceroy & Governor General of India and his party. After independence, this reserve was notified as a bird sanctuary but the former rulers of Bharatpur continued to enjoy their shooting rights over the area till 1972.
 

CLIMATE (Bharatpur National Park)
During summers (April. June), the average temperature at the national park vary between 38°C to 45°C. In During the monsoon the average temperatures are around 27°C where as during the Winter season the temperature at the park falls below 10°C.

How to Reach Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary
By Air: The nearest airport Agra is 56-kms from Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. The place is also well associated with Delhi Airport, which can be reached from Agra.
By Rail: The Bharatpur railway station is 6-kms from the national park. The regular trains connect Bharatpur with all the main cities of India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Agra.
By Road: An exceptional road network connects Bharatpur to all the major towns of the Rajasthan like Agra, Jaipur, Delhi and its bordering states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

SEASON
The Park is open throughout the year. Best months are August-November for local breeding birds and November-March for immigrant birds.
