The pride of Rajasthan, Chittorgarh still reverberates with the tales of its wonderful but turbulent past. It is a land where the ideals of courtliness, sacrifice and honor were always worshipped. Today, all that remnants of those glorious times are the ruins of forts, palaces and temples that have however managed to retain their old grandeur.

SIGHTSEEING Chittorgarh:

Vijay Stambh-
Known as the "Victory Tower," the Vijay Stambh stands at a stirring height of 37 meters. It was built by Maharaja Kumbha in 1440 AD to mark his victory over the Muslim rulers of Malwa and Gujarat.

Chittorgarh Fort
built in the 7th century AD; the Chittorgarh Fort sprawls over an area of 700 acres. The fort with its impressive location and bright history is the main source of magnetism in Chittor town. Named after Chittrangad Mauraya, the fort is a fine example of the Rajput style of structural design.

Fateh Prakash Palace Museum
This museum is located inside the Chittorgarh Fort. It was established in 1968 and displays a grand collection of sculptures and other royal paraphernalia.

Jaimal and Patta Palaces
The ruins of this palace remind once of the story of the gallant Rathores Jaimal and Sisodia Patta the two great warriors, who layed down their lives for the honour of Chittaurgarh. Though in ruins, these palaces still echo with many tales of valor and sacrifice.

Kalika Mata Temple
Originally built as a Sun Temple in the 8th century, the Kalika Mata temple was later dedicated to Goddess Kali --the symbol of power and valor. Rana Hamir converted it into a Kali temple on regaining the fort in the 14th century. The house of Chunda is situated near the temple, Situated towards the southern side of the fort, There are several other temples, within the ramparts of the fort like that of the temple of Annapurana, Jain Temples etc.

Kirti Stambh
The Stambh stands at a height of 22 meters and was built by a wealthy Jain merchant in the 12th century AD. It is dedicated to Adinathji, the first of the Jain Tirthankaras. A narrow stairway goes through seven stories of the tower to the top. There are several other Jain temples iln Chittaurgarh.
Meera Bai Temple-
The temple where Meerabai worshipped Lord Krishna is built in north Indian style on a raised plinth with a conical roof and beautiful inner sanctum. An open colonnade around the sanctum has four small pavillions in each corner. Meera was born in Kurki village near Merta to Ratan Singh Rathors, and was married to Bhojraj son of Rana Sanga of Mewar. Legends say that she consumed poison set by Vikramaditya but nothing happended to her due to the blessings of Lord Krishna. In front of the temple is the cenotaph (chhatri) of Meera Bai's Guru Shri Rai Das of Banaras, inside the cenotaph is carved a figure of five human bodies with one head, depicting that all castes are equal and even outcasts can attain God.
Padmini's Palace
This palace was built for Queen Padmini whose overwhelming beauty made Allauddin Khilji attack Chittorgarh for a furious battle which saw the last of Maharana Ratan Singh (husband of Maharani Padmini) and the epitome of beauty-Cleopatra of Rajasthan, became an eternal legend in the history of chittor and also of the Mewar state. It was here that Rana Ratan Singh allowed a glimpse of the legendary beauty to Allauddin Khilji. The Zanana Mahal overlooks the pond, Padmini stood over here and the reflection of her was shown in the water to Allauddin Khilji. Rana Kumbha's Palace- The ruined palace is believed to have underground cellars where Rani Padmini and other women committed the act of 'Jauhar.'
Rana Kumbha Palace
The largest monument of the fort, it is believed that Rani Padmini committed Jauhar, in once of these underground cellars. The palace is in ruins but generates historical as well as architectural interest.
