most popular states of India, Uttaranchal is located in the
hilly terrains of Himalayan Mountains. Tibet, Nepal,

sanctuary and the national parks of Uttaranchal.
There is an Aero sports club in Dehradun, the capital city
of Uttaranchal. The club is managed by Garhwal Mandal Vikas
Nigam (GMVN). GMVN facilitates the aero sports in the valley
of Dehradun. The equipment's for parasailing and paragliding
activities are made available by GMVN. The club also trains
the beginners. They have certified trainers and instructors
who guide the tourists who come for the aero sports. Skiing
is also a favourite sport in Uttaranchal during the winter
time, i.e., December to March. Some of the skiing sites are
Alui, Dayara Bugyal, Mundali and Munsyari. Alui is a hot
destination for the ski lovers, be it a beginner or an
experienced skier. The 3 km stretch has long slopes for
skiing. The view of Himalayan range also makes it a
memorable trip.
The excellent ski slopes of Dayara Bugyal are spread over an
area of 28 sq. kms. The panoramic view of the Himalayas from
here is breathtaking. Mountaineering can be enjoyed around
the Gangotri Glacier and the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. The peaks
of varying heights, between 6500-7000 m, offers quite a
thrilling adventure. Nanda Devi is 7601 m high while Kamet
and Abhigaman are over 7000 m high. For Trekking lovers,
Pithoragarh, also called 'Mini Kashmir', is an ideal place.
Some of the exciting treks from here are 'Pithorgarh-Parwati
Lake - Chota Kailash-Sinla Pass trek' and the 'Munsyari-Martoli-Milam-Ralam
glacier trek'. The Corbett National Park and the Nanda Devi
National Park provide the view of the wildlife in there
natural shelter. The Corbett National Park is home to
Tigers, and is India's first national park, which is most
ideal for the people who are very keen in wildlife adventure
tours. The Sport of river rafting is done mainly in the
upper part of the streams of river Ganga, Yamuna, Alaknanda
and Bhagirathi. Taken up during October to May, river
rafting in Uttaranchal can be very tough as the water passes
through the narrow passages and deep inclinations. In
all, Uttaranchal offers all sort of adventure to its
adventure loving tourists. |
TREKKING |
Trekking involves walking uphill and sometimes steeply downhill, 6-7
hours daily with 10kgs on your back. The period of the trek can vary
from 1 day to 30 days, depending on the masochistic tendencies of
the people involved.
