| Perched on a 150
m high hill its sprawl is the most formidable and magnificent
fort in Rajasthan. Rao Jodha founded it in 1459 but subsequent
rulers of Jodhpur have also added to it over the centuries.
A meandering road leads to the from the city 5 kms below.

Rohet - the
fortified desert home of the descendants of the 16th
century Rathore of the Champawat clan, Thakur Dalpat
Singh I. The "Jagir" (Fiefdom)
of Rohet was bestowed upon him in 1622 A.D. by the
Maharaja Of Jodhpur, as a mark of appreciation for
his bravery in battle. Generations of valiant noble-men
have built this heritage home where, notwithstanding
the inroads of modernity, aristocratic values are respected.

Luni Fort, Near Jodhpur |

Fort Chanwa is located in Luni, near Jodhpur
in Rajasthan. It is an exceptional example of elegance
and symmetry in Indian architecture of the last century.
Kaviraj Muraridanji, a minister in the court of Maharaja
Jaswant Singh II, got the fort constructed. Built completely
out of Jodhpur red sandstone, it is an epitome of grace

Adhai din ka Jhonpra
located beyond the Dargah, on the
outskirts of the town are the ruins of this mosque. According
to legend, its construction in 1153 took 2 ½ days
(adhai din), hence the name. It was originally a Sanskrit
college, built within a temple. But In 1193 AD Mohamed Ghouri
seized Ajmer and converted the building into a mosque by
adding a seven-arched wall in front of the pillared hall. |

Taragarh Fort Ajmer
about 3 km beyond the Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra mosque lies
this fort. Taragarh or the Star Fort was built by Ajaipal
Chauhan, the town's founder and commands a superb view
over the city. It was the site of much the military activity
during the Mughal period and was later used as a sanatorium
by the British. |
Kumbhal Garh Fort, Rajasthan
Located 64 kms north of Udaipur in the wilderness, Kumbhalgarh
is the second most important citadel after Chittorgarh in
the Mewar region. This region has its second most important
citadel in Kumbhalgarh, after Chittorgarh.

Jaisalmer Fort, Jaisalmer
Known as SONAR QUILA or the Golden fort, rising from
the sand , the mega structure merges with the golden hues
of the desert ambience and the setting suns in its most colorful
shades gives it a fairy tale look. The fort stands almost
30 meters over the city and houses an entire living area
within huge ramparts.

Fort, Chittorgarh
The legend has it that Bhim, a Pandava, stared the construction
of the Chittorgarh fort, Udaipur. The fort is on 280-hectare
site on the top of a 180-metre-high hill, which rises abruptly
from the surrounding plain. A one km zig-zag accent leads
